Space Needle and EMP Museum

During my last trip to Seattle, I brought along only one lens. My favourite Carl Zeiss 50mm manual. Quite often in photography circles it is mentioned that if you want to learn photography, use 50mm. I wanted to encounter the challenges of using this focal length while travelling. I can tell you many times, I wished I had brought along a wider one.

At the end of the day, I must say, constraints help us being creative. We must find solutions with the given tools. This series shows how I was able to capture the Space Needle with EMP Museum in the same shot. Enjoy.

Seattle in Reflections

An aerial view of the city is something we are not used to see on a daily basis. During my last trip, I had the opportunity to ride atop "Space Needle" tower. On a beautiful sunny day after incessant rain for days & nights, I was lucky to be among the very few visitors in the morning.

Once atop, I was attracted towards the images created by reflections of the city on the restaurant windows. It was the first time I had seen such wonderful images. I could gaze at the imagery for hours, watching clouds floating over the bay.

Following (click on the link) are a few of the many shots taken, in an attempt to see the city in a totally different perspective. Enjoy!

Revisiting Botanical Gardens - Zurich

Last time I visited Botanical Gardens in Zurich was back in 2008. During these years, many times I contemplated going back and spend some time there. This time though, I did not want anyone else to be present there. I wanted to see how it looks like without any human being around.

I am always fascinated by places without people, where nature is undisturbed, on its own. It has a different quality to it. Beautiful and peaceful.

So last Sunday, I decided to revisit. When I reached there early morning, the doors were still closed. Had to wait for some time, and was the first and only one to be there. I remained inside for around 2 hrs, without a single human being in sight. Loved it.

Here are just a few shots.

WTF - A New Series

Hello Everyone

Today, I am starting a new series called "WTF" on my site. Exactly, you read it right.

Now, before your morality bells start ringing in your heads, just hold on for a while. Let me explain. I take a lot of pictures, whenever I get a chance. More often than not, these are snapshots and moments stolen from every day life happening around us.

Some times these are funny, and perhaps most often they may not make any sense at all to you. That's precisely the reason I called it "WTF". I am hoping from time to time, there will appear a picture and without realizing you'll utter "WTF"?

So, enough said in my defense.

Note: Don't look at these pictures through your artistic and intellectual lens, save that for something else. Enjoy!

early morning

Almost a year ago, I started documenting life in Zurich city, generally frequenting the same spots. Normally, while shooting on the streets, I have nothing in mind what I want to shoot. I just go out there and observe life. I take what is on offer. More often than not, I do find stories to tell through my pictures on what is happening there at that moment.

The following pictures are just a snapshot of people living in Zurich, going fishing out on Lake Zurich in early morning. It gets really cold out there, but these people are like meditating, they have so much patience, sometimes hours pass by without catching a single fish.

These pictures are a snapshot of life in Zurich, in early morning.

surrender

i believe a good picture should hold itself on its own without any description in its support. if it makes the viewer pause for a second, makes her curious to know what's going on, it may become an acceptable picture.

for the last couple of years, i have been taking pictures in its spontaneity, in the spur of the moment. Some series have been thoughtful, and planned where i simply documented the events.

it took me years to gather courage, to start taking conceptual photographs. it was an internal struggle, a fear of non-acceptance by the world.

so, i decided to start making photographs, for myself. and this is the first series with my daughter, Nikita. thanks to her, for helping me. i love you. click here for the series.
